Coding and Robotics in Lower School: Cubetto and Micro:Bit

This year Prep students have found a new friend in their classrooms called Cubetto.  Cubetto is a friendly floor robot that teaches coding to early years children in a fun way.  Students can use the colourful programming board and blocks to instruct the robot to move on a mat.  The pictures on the mat let the students use their imagination while moving their wooden friend to create fun adventures.

See how the students have fun playing with the robot and trying to get him to walk to the forest:

Micro:Bit is a pocket sized computer that can help young students to learn how to code.  Gr.3 students have been using it to do some challenges in class.  They used a coding app on the iPad and created a flashing face, a falling snowflake, and a song.  Students have learned that these microprocessors are used in daily life and they can use it to code and make digital things too.  With the motion detection, a built-in compass and Bluetooth technology, students can use the Micro Bits to try out many of their own digital ideas!  Throughout the challenges, students have develop their computational thinking and math skills.
